In this section, we’ll cover the basics of Snipto to quickly get you started. Make sure to install Snipto before diving into the next sections.

What is Snipto?

Snipto is a minimal, cross-platform desktop application that lets you assign global keyboard or text-based shortcuts to frequently used text snippets. It enables instant pasting anywhere, making repetitive typing tasks faster and easier.

Key features include a snippet dashboard, import/export shortcut, system tray access, quick toggling of snippet activity, and a search window to quickly find shortcut keys.

System Requirements

  • Operating System: macOS 11+ or Windows 10+
  • Architecture: 64-bit (x86_64)
  • Permissions:
    • macOS: Accessibility permissions must be enabled for global keyboard listening
  • System tray support must be available and enabled

Launching the App

After installing Snipto, getting started is quick and easy:

Windows: If you created a shortcut during installation, you'll find Snipto on your desktop. Otherwise, search “Snipto” in the Start Menu → Click to launch.macOS: Open Spotlight (⌘ + Space) → Type “Snipto” → Hit Enter.Linux: Open a terminal and run snipto.

Once launched, Snipto will run silently in the background and can be accessed from your system tray (Windows/Linux) or status bar (macOS) if the option for running the app in background is enabled.
