Settings & Profiles

Configure how Snipto behaves behind the scenes, choose your preferred mode, and master advanced usage with helpful pro tips.

Understanding Settings

Snipto gives you control over how the app behaves in the background. The two main settings help streamline your workflow and ensure the app is always ready when you need it.

Run in Background

When this option is enabled, Snipto continues running silently in the background even after you close or minimize the main window. It stays in the system tray and actively listens for your configured snippets.

Start on System Startup

Enable this to launch Snipto automatically when your computer boots. It ensures your snippets are always ready without needing to manually start the app every time.

System Tray

Snipto minimizes to your system tray for quick access and a clutter-free experience. You can open the app anytime by clicking the tray icon, and it keeps running in the background to listen for your snippets and hotkeys.

Switching Modes

Snipto offers powerful ways to organize your snippets through modes. Each mode can hold a different set of shortcuts to help you switch between workflows seamlessly.

Available Modes

  • Text Mode: Simple snippet triggers based on entered text.
  • Hotkey Mode: Use keyboard shortcuts to fire snippets instantly.
  • Reserved Modes: You can create up to 10 total custom modes (e.g., Dev, Writing, Research).

Each custom mode can store up to 3 snippets. You can switch between modes using two flexible methods.

Switch via Dropdown

Inside the app, use the mode dropdown to switch between different snippet sets. It's intuitive and gives you a clear view of what mode you're currently in.

Global Mode Switching

Don't want to open the app every time? Use the global shortcut Alt + [Number] to switch modes on the fly.

A small pop-up will appear letting you know which mode you're currently in (e.g., Default Mode β†’ Writing Mode), so you're never left guessing.

Pro Tips πŸ’‘

Get the most out of Snipto with these smart tips to streamline your snippet workflow and avoid common pitfalls.

πŸ“Œ Profiles & Snippets

You can maintain up to 3 profiles, each customized for a different use-case (e.g., Work, Writing, Personal).

Each profile supports up to 10 snippets. Only one Text Mode is allowed per profile; the rest are Hotkey Modes.

🚫 Avoid Shortcut Overlaps

Snipto does not allow overlapping or nested shortcuts. If you use ty, you cannot reuse tysn.

This prevents accidental triggers and ensures consistent performance.

Tip: You can hover over the cards in the snippet list to view the entire text if it is truncated.

πŸ”’ Reserved & Duplicate Shortcuts

Shortcuts like Ctrl + C or Cmd + Tab are reserved by your operating system and can't be used. Refer to the complete list here: Reserved Shortcuts

Also, duplicate shortcuts within the same profile are not allowed to avoid conflict.

βš™οΈ Run in Background for Seamless Use

Enable β€œRun in Background” from Settings to keep Snipto always active without a visible window. It minimizes to the system tray but continues to listen for your snippets silently.

This is the best way to use Snipto like a true power user β€” always ready, never in the way.

πŸš€ Global Mode Switching

Tired of opening the app just to change modes? Use Alt + [1-3] to switch profiles on the fly.

A pop-up will notify you of the current mode after switching β€” quick, clean, and efficient.

πŸ” Master the Search Bar

Hit Ctrl + Space (or Cmd + Space) to launch global search and find any snippet instantly.

Type part of the shortcut, description, or tag β€” Snipto will do the rest. It's the fastest way to test your snippets if its too much to remeber them.
